7-Day Southbound Glacier Route Cruise aboard The Carnival Spirit. Cruise departs from the Port of Whittier (2hr. south of Anchorage, Transportation from Anchorage via motor coach if arriving the day of embarkation, via train if arriving a day early) Cruise to: Sitka ~ Skagway ~ Juneau ~ Ketchikan ~ Vancouver. On these southbound cruises, you'll visit Yakutat Bay to see the "Galloping Glacier". And in Prince William Sound, you'll be awed by Columbia Glacier-260 feet high, 4 miles wide and 40 miles long, and the sixteen sparkling glaciers of College Fjord.

The Cruise and visits to the Ports are awesome enough but for those that want to do extras below is a list of excursions or tours. The big question I had the 1st time I went to Alaska was, Why didn't I do this before? It truly is the most beautiful trip you will ever take in North America, rich in Scenery and History.

Sample Alaska Destinations / Shore Excursions

There are many more excursions to choose from once aboard. If interested in the Helicopter in Juneau and/or the Train in Skagway Pre-booking is recommended, they sell out early.  * denotes recommended.

Juneau, Alaska

The largest city in the United States will probably surprise you. It's not New York, Houston, Chicago or Los Angeles. It's Juneau, Alaska considered by many to be the most beautiful capital city in the nation. Checking in at just a little over 3,100 square miles Juneau qualifies as the biggest American city-geographically, that is. The terrain is hilly and its winding, narrow streets present a small-town quaintness existing side-by-side with cosmopolitan sophistication. Great shopping. Fine restaurants. Superb Museums. And you thought Alaska was just igloos and glaciers.

Ketchikan, Alaska

A popular destination along Alaska's famed Inside Passage, Ketchikan is teeming with Native American culture. Home of the largest concentration of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people in the state this extraordinarily beautiful city on Revillagigedo Island boasts the world's largest collection of totem poles, and an equally impressive selection of museums and cultural centers featuring Native dance, carving and artifacts. Ketchikan's calm waters and surprisingly gentle climate make it a favorite of sports fishermen.

Skagway, Alaska

As your ship approaches Skagway, you'll see the town resting peacefully at the base of a river valley bordered by the Coast Mountains. The mountains, ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 feet in height, seem to rise straight up from the saltwater fjord. Once on land, the streets of Skagway draw you back almost 100 years, when this idyllic Native fishing village was overrun by hordes of prospectors. Today, wooden sidewalks, old-fashioned saloons, quaint gift shops and horse-drawn carriages serve as reminders of the "Days of '98."

Sitka, Alaska

Besides the spectacular natural beauty that surrounds Sitka Sound, Sitka, the only major city on Alaska's Baranof Island, is the beneficiary of three distinct cultures: Tlingit, Russian and American. You'll find relics of all three cultures throughout the area. The city also boasts a fascinating history, a unique totem park and Mount Edgecomb -- a dormant volcano that stands guard over the pretty harbor.

Cruise Inside Passage (The lower part of the cruise route)

See Alaska as an insider.
All it takes is a trip through the incomparable Inside Passage where majestic fjords compete for your attention with mountain masterpieces carved by the glaciers. Look around. Small fishing villages dot the coast. And the protected waters are full of wildlife. A great way to get the inside story of Alaska's beauty.

Cruise Prince William Sound, 1st day cruising.

In Prince William Sound, you'll be awed by Columbia Glacier-260 feet high, 4 miles wide and 40 miles long, and the sixteen sparkling glaciers of College Fjord. 3.3 million acres of glaciers at your disposal.
Prince William Sound, one of nature's grandest collections of jagged glaciers, offers millions of acres of fine saltwater beaches, protected coves, lush forests and numerous jewel-like lakes. A royal beauty for anyone visiting Alaska
